ANTHONY JOSHUA claims it is “baffling” Deontay Wilder rejected a £100million offer by DAZN in order to see the heavyweight rivals finally fight.
While Wilder is keen to talk up a fight against Joshua’s past opponent Dillian Whyte warning the Body Snatcher “careful what you ask for”.
Floyd Mayweather would be happy to fight Conor McGregor again, one of his closest team members has claimed.
Here is SunSport’s boxing round up.
WILDER REJECTION IS ‘BAFFLING’
JOSHUA called it “baffling” that Deontay Wilder rejected a £100millon deal offered by DAZN for an undisputed showdown between the pair to finally take place.
In March WBC king Wilder, 33, rejected a reported £100m offer by Joshua’s US network DAZN that included a three-fight deal.
Joshua said: “He turned down double the amount to fight me and that was a real offer from a broadcaster. That wasn’t an email from Wilder, it was a real contract offer from a broadcaster offering Wilder the chance to fight on DAZN.
“A contract offering him a chance to fight one warm-up then me. And he could have fought me straightaway if he’d wanted, there was that option.
“It’s baffling to know why he didn’t take it after all the talk. How much more money has to be on the table?”
RUIZ TO EMULATE TYSON
ANDY RUIZ JR has warned Anthony Joshua he will emulate Mike Tyson in order to exploit “a lot weaknesses” he has seen in the unified champion.
Ruiz told The Telegraph: “I’ve seen a lot of weaknesses in him and I’ve seen him working on them.
“I don’t want to say too much about his weaknesses. I’ve just got to improvise and exploit them when the bell rings.
“We’ve seen a lot of videos of Mike Tyson. We’re working on some of the moves he did so I can get to Anthony Joshua.”
MAYWEATHER VS MCGREGOR 2?
MAYWEATHER would be happy to fight Conor McGregor again, one of his closest team members has claimed.
Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe told TMZ Sports: “If Conor wants some of that smoke again, he knows what he’s got to do.
“He needs to call Dana (White), [McGregor’s] been in there with Floyd, so if he feels that way, all he has to do is make a phone call. It’s as simple as that.
“If you’re asking me, I think Floyd would oblige to that ass whooping. Conor McGregor knows he’s always welcome to that ass whooping.”
WILDER WARNS WHYTE
DEONTAY WILDER has sent Dillian Whyte a warning by telling the Brit to be “careful what you ask for” with the WBC champ claiming their fight is “going to come”.
WBC No1 ranked challenger Whyte, 31, has long vied for a crack at Wilder’s belt having worked the last two years to become mandatory – although until now the world title shot has eluded the Brit.
Alabama’s heavyweight champ told Tha Boxing Voice that Whyte will get his day – but warned the Brit he will repeat his devastating first round KO of Dominic Breazeale.
Wilder said: “The Dillian Whyte fight is going to come. If he keeps winning, there ain’t going to be no way around it.
“When it does happen, he’s going to be like a Dominic Breazeale. Be careful what you ask for young man, you just might get it.”
HEARN ‘WORRIED’ FOR AJ
EDDIE HEARN is “worried” for unified heavyweight champion Joshua as he faces “bad style” Ruiz.
Joshua defends his titles against Ruiz on Saturday and promoter Hearn told The Express: “It’s a bad style for AJ, because you look at the smaller guys he’s fought – Takam, Povetkin – he’s struggled a little against that style.
“(Ruiz is) going to let his hands go, he’s going to try a Mike Tyson style; get on the inside, work Joshua’s body, let the big hook go over the top.
“This is going to be a firefight. Joshua’s got to be on this. Everybody’s talking about Deontay Wilder, the undisputed fight, ‘when’s it happening?’
“Worry about Andy Ruiz. He is a problem next Saturday. You take your eye off the ball in this heavyweight game, like that (he clicks) it’s over, and we can forget about those fights.”
