As many of you know, we have recently gotten into minting proof coins. What we never expected was that they would become the most popular coins in the world today. Nobody thought to put modern day faces on coins and we’ve had a blast with the whole endeavor.
That naturally led to drunk brainstorming sessions about how gold was becoming incredibly popular and maybe we should do gold bars? Everybody wanted to do something big – like a 400 oz. gold bar with dickbutt on it.
I thought it would be funny if we literally went the other direction and found the world’s smallest gold bar. We started digging and were surprised at what our research revealed.

Traditionally, even gold bars considered “small” are 50-100 grams and cost many thousands of dollars. Fuck that. About the smallest gold bar you can find is a 1/10 oz. bar and that just isn’t silly enough for us.
We called dozens of mints and the feedback we got indicated that it’s actually incredibly difficult to make a gold bar the size of a penny and even more difficult if you wanted to laser etch your brand on such a thing, the whole process is surprisingly expensive.

Then we contacted Josh Phair at the Scottsdale Mint. Josh is a legend. He has a reputation in the industry as a bit of a metals mad scientist. He said he’d been experimenting with the concept and invited us to Scottsdale to have a look.

Josh revealed the secret to minting the bars and, since that’s a huge secret, here is Brennah Black looking at some silver coins.

Suffice it to say it takes a lot of time and heat.

It took a couple days but the man actually pulled it off! I present to you the world’s smallest gold bars.

We only made about 200 of the world’s smallest gold bars. It’s something we had a ton of fun with and we’re donating the a healthy portion of proceeds to Chive Charities. These will also be valuable collectible items in the future – you can score the world’s smallest gold bar right here!

Josh added a very cool touch by randomly laser etching individual letters on the right corner that spell out ‘Keep Calm & Chive On’.
