DEFIANT Ant McPartlin last night hit back at trolls who claimed he did not deserve his NTAs win after taking ten months off TV following his drink drive crash.
Ant admitted he was “genuinely shocked” in a heartfelt speech as he accepted the award while he and Dec were filming auditions for the upcoming series of Britain’s Got Talent.
But some viewers voiced anger at the 43-year-old scooping the award during Tuesday night’s ceremony.
He was forced to miss the final run of Saturday Night Takeaway shows – and was replaced by This Morning’s Holly Willoughby for the latest series of I’m A Celeb.

One critic on Twitter said after Ant’s win: “How the f*** could Ant and Dec win a NTA when it was only “And Dec” for the past year?”
Another write: “In the one year where Ant & Dec weren’t prominently featured on UK Television, they still walk away with the NTA for Best Presenter for the 18th year running.
“Not planning on giving anyone else some recognition?”
A third added: “Why did Ant and Dec win the NTA for best presenters????? Only one of them actually worked this year”.
But the official @AntAndDec Twitter account retweeted a perfect slap-down to Ant’s “haters”.

The @ShowbizSecrets account wrote: “To those of you who are hating: Ant McPartlin hosted all 6 of the @BGT audition episodes last year & 3 of the @ITVTakeaway live shows, so he is eligible & they both deserve it. #NTS.
Following @AntAndDec’s retweet, the post was “liked” more than 700 times at the time of writing – and received a slew of supportive replies.
One devoted fan wrote: “They both deserve it…best two lads on TV”.
Another added: “Well said He looks great and can’t wait for @BGT to start! Well done boys!”
Earlier, Dec tweeted from the account: “Thank you doesn’t seem to cover it this year. We are humbled and honoured.
“We are so appreciative of your continued support and good wishes, they are never taken for granted. Thank u again. Now back to #BGT auditions! D x #NTAs”

Ant’s award comes after he poured his heart out in an exclusive interview with The Sun On Sunday this week.
He said his new love Anne-Marie Corbett was his “rock” during his recent troubles – and revealed that he has ADHD.
Ant told The Sun’s Dan Woottoon: “Anne-Marie honestly is the fundamental reason for the great change in my life.
“She’s been my rock. She’s a beautiful soul. We’re very happy.
“I’m in the best place I’ve been in my life, to be honest with you. It’s great.”
