PREMIER League ace Aaron Ramsey wants to build a tunnel – to escape the cold weather.
The Arsenal star has submitted plans to erect an enclosure for the outdoor swimming pool at his £5million Cardiff home and to connect it to the main house with an underground walkway.
While dark clouds are gathering at Arsenal because the midfielder’s contract is up at the end of the season, he is blaming the weather in his native Wales for the need for construction work.
Ramsey’s luxury five-bedroom pad already boasts a three-hole golf course, championship-standard tennis court, lake and helicopter landing pad. ut now he is seeking to build a 15m x 37m pool enclosure and gym extension complete with grass roof so that he can swim all year round.
The proposed 3m-high outbuilding would also include a plunge pool, steam room, changing rooms and toilets.
His planning agent said: “The dwelling currently features a large outdoor swimming pool, however, due to the weather in Wales the swimming pool is very rarely used.

“The scheme proposes the erection of an enclosure around the swimming pool including an access tunnel from the dwelling to the pool. The enclosure will allow for the pool to be used all year round.
“The majority of the surrounding dwellings are also very large, featuring swimming pools and tennis courts.”
Planners at Cardiff Council are expected to make a decision later this month and there have so far been no objections from neighbours.
Ramsey’s pad also boasts a snooker room, office, study, library and reading room, and is set in 20 acres of secluded land in the upmarket Lisvane suburb of Cardiff.
