The 32-year-old was hit by former Sydney Thunder teammate Andre Russell in the second over of Australia’s run chase.
As soon as he was hit, Khawaja made it clear there was a problem and was escorted off the pitch by team doctor Richard Saw.
He was sent for scans and played no further part in the Aussies run chase.
