BAFTAs 2019 worst dressed: Edith Bowman and stars miss fashion mark

The British Academy Film Awards often sees the industry’s leading stars dress to impress for an evening of glitz and glamour.

But Edith Bowman, Tiziana Rocca and Zawe Ashton all hit a bum note with their striking numbers as they led the worst dressed list during the 72nd annual ceremony at London‘s Royal Albert Hall on Sunday evening.

Scottish DJ Edith, 45, missed the fashion mark with her white floral embellished gown, complete with an over-the-top ruffled collar and matching sleeves.

The BAFTA Awards attracted a host of stars that all dressed to impress, and one attendee who caught our eye was Zawe Ashton.

The actress made a colourful statement on the red carpet in this gorgeous hot pink gown by Roksanda, which hails from the SS19 collection.

We love the loose, draping silhouette and peplum hem, plus the contrasting straps make for a statement finish. She’s completed the look with gemstone flat slipper shoes, but you could easily style such a dress with heels for a little extra glam.

The dress isn’t yet available, but browse the current collection via the link (right).

However, if you want to wow the crowd at your next event then channel Zawe’s style in a dress from our roundup below. Nasty Gal has a stunning dress on offer for only £12 or you could splash out a little on Lovers + Friends or Yigal Azrouel to make a statement.

Adding a striking contrast to her appearance, the BBC Radio 1 star’s ensemble featured a suede black bodice, decorated with a bouquet of flowers.

Edith injected even more pazzazz into her look with a pair of kooky leather gloves, while toning down her appearance with her peach-toned make-up look and elegant updo.

Giulio Base’s wife Tiziana dared to be different in a pink strapless frock, featuring a quirky dipped hemline and bizarre tie-dye patterns throughout.

Shunning classic heels in favour of a biker chic look, the publicist teamed her number with suede ankle boots and an array of shimmery silver bangles.

Cynthia Erivo also took a fashion risk with her choice of attire, with the Widows actress slipping into an elaborate peach tulle gown with lilac trimmings.

The 32-year-old screen star turned heads with her ensemble’s eccentric structured bodice, before flowing into a wacky tulle skirt.

Taking things a step further, the Bad Times at the El Royale star coordinated her lavender tresses with her bold make-up look, consisting of matte eyeshadow and chocolate brown lipgloss.

Former model Tatiana Korsakova went overboard with the ruffle trend as she rocked a pink and white ensemble, embellished with frilly neckline and bizarre puff-ball style train.

Costume designer Sandy Powell opted for the androgynous look in a pinstripe monochrome suit, which slightly missed the mark with its oversized silhouette.
