BBC Breakfast host Louise Minchin laughs and walks off set as her phone rings on live TV

WE’VE all been mortified when our phone has rung at the worst possible moment, but spare a thought for Louise Minchin, whose mobile started blasting music live on TV.

Louise, 50, accidentally sat on her phone during an interview on BBC Breakfast, and had to run off set when she couldn’t get it to switch off.

The journalist said she was “properly embarrassed” and was in fits of giggles as she tried to stay professional with her co-host Dan Walker.

The pair were interviewing MP David Gauke on the latest Brexit developments when her phone started playing.

Louise said: “Oh my goodness me. Sorry, god that’s so embarrassing. Shall I go?

“How have I done that? I’m literally going to walk off set.”

She attempted to turn the music down but sped off camera when she couldn’t.

To make matters worse, Louise had turned on her own podcast The TriPod.

Struggling to stifle his laughter, Dan said: “She’s walking off! She’s embarrassed.

“That’s Louise’s new podcast called The TriPod.”

A mortified Louise fired back: “Don’t even say”! I’m really properly embarrassed.”

While the situation unfolded producers aired a shot of Glasgow scenery to disguise the chaos.

Louise came back onscreen a few moments later and apologised “profusely”.

But she couldn’t stay composed for long and kept giggling while Dan reported the next story.

Dan later tweeted his amusement about the moment, writing: “I love the fact the @louiseminchin was so embarrassed by her phone playing a podcast live on telly that, rather than turn it down, she just walked off the set #BBCbreakfast.

“She has no idea how she did it.”

The gaffe left BBC Breakfast viewers on Twitter in stitches.

One tweeted: “Brilliant. Louise will no doubt relive that moment a few times on TV!”

“Best. Breakfast. Ever,” another posted.

A third said: “Hahahahahah @louiseminchin’s phone going off on breakfast TV was brilliant!”
