Best horse racing tips for Friday: Sunracing’s top picks for today’s racing at Ascot, Thirsk, Newmarket, Chepstow, York and Uttoxeter

The heatwave shows no sign of stopping as field sizes continue to be reduced around the country.

However, there’s still money to be won and the Sunracing team have studied the cards and picked their best bets for the day at each meeting.

Ascot

Best bet

3.00 Mancini – Jonathan Portman’s progressive four-year-old has been in tremendous form of late and his five-length victory at Goodwood last month was a career best. He’s been raised 8lb for that but he could well be rated over 100 by the end of the season and he can win again.

Each way

4.45 Tarboosh – Stepping up in grade after winning a conditions race last week which he had no right to win at the weights. Strong traveller will get a good pace to aim at and can strike once more returned to a handicap.

Uttoxeter

Best bet

2.45 Premier King – Quite a competitive little contest but Premier King stands out as the one to beat after destroying his opposition at the track on debut for Dan Skelton. That was his first start after a wind operation and it would be surprising if there wasn’t more to come.

Each way

4.30 Samson – Finished behind Premier King last time but that’s good form and he was seven lengths clear of the third that day. The drop back to two miles is interesting so expect him to bowl along in front to make the most of his stamina.

Thirsk

Best bet

3.45 Prince Elzaam – David O’Meara has his string in fantastic form at the moment and his speedy two-year-old can win the nursery. He’s shown good form on his last two starts and his opening mark is not too excessive.

Each way

4.20 Prestbury Park – Drops to a 0-80 having contested a 0-95 last time out and he’s now operating off a winning mark. This is a weaker race than he’s been accustomed and he’ll be difficult to peg back.

Newmarket

Best bet

7.10 Rogue – Was only just thwarted by a good horse at the track last week and has developed a good relationship with 7lb claimer Thore Hammer Hansen. Likely to take some catching if adopting similar tactics in what looks a weaker contest.

Each way

8.40 Maksab – Was slightly disappointing at the track last time but that was a much stronger race than this and he can bounce back. Gets the services of Silvestre de Sousa and will be likely be tough to beat.

Chepstow

Best bet

7.50 Broadhaven Honey – Just lost out at Bath earlier this month but finished two lengths clear of the third and still has improvement left to come. Operates well at this track and will take the power of beating.

Each way

8.55 Just Right – Didn’t run very well on Tapeta last time out but his performance at Lingfield beforehand looks strong form for the grade and he can outrun his odds under a good 5lb claimer.

York

Best bet

6.00 Humbolt Current – Got his act together in some style on his last two starts and is well under a penalty with crack 3lb claimer Georgia Cox enlisted. Swept past his opposition with ease last time and expect a similar story here.

Each way

7.30 Stage Name – Never in a position to challenge at Pontefract last time out but did well to finish fourth and this is a similar race. Track will suit better and Hugo Palmer is flying.
