Big Brother: Fans go wild as ‘legendary’ Nikki Grahame appears on Bit On The Side

Viewers went into meltdown as Channel 5 announced Celebrity Big Brother and Big Brother has been axed after 18 years.

And fans were treated to a whiff of nostalgia as former housemates Nikki Grahame, Kate Lawler, Jon Tickle and Alex Sibley joined Rylan Clark-Neal on the Bit On The Side on Friday evening. 

The panel beamed with delight as they touched on the final series, with 2006 contestant Nikki, 36, sending fans wild with her signature giddy demeanor.

Speaking about the last ever cohort, Northwood native Nikki, who returned to the franchise in 2010, said: ‘This is surely what Big Brother is about, they have not wasted any time! They’re fighting for £100,000,this is what I love about the show.’ 

Kate, 38, served as the first female winner of Big Brother in 2002, while model Alex, 39, came in at third place.

Jon, 44, was evicted half-way during the fourth series of the show, but later returned to the house as a guest.  

Bit On The Side also boasted appearances from ex-housemates Lisa Appleton, Kathreya Kasisopa, Bex Shiner and Chanelle McCleary in the audience, and loyal viewers were delighted to see their favourite contestants amid the shocking announcement about the show’s final series.

‘Ohhh #bbbots giving me all the nostalgia! Actually feel really sad that I can name every guest, the series they were in and who they were in the house with….catching up on last night’s #bbbots and Kathreya is sat next to Lisa Appleton and it’s like taking a snapshot of the inside of my brain.’ 

During the episode, host Emma Willis had to hold back tears as she emotionally addressed Big Brother and Celebrity Big Brother’s axe.

Speaking to fellow host Rylan, 29, the 42-year-old said: ‘This should be a positive thing because we should just f**king show everybody how great this programme is and we should love it and embrace it and give it the send off it deserves.

‘I’ve also been here before when it finished, so I’m like, “Oh yeah, we buried it and then it came back to life”.’

Emma added: ‘It was brilliant actually, and all the changes that the production team have made this series for celebrity and the one we’re about to enter.

‘I think they’ve taken all the brilliant bits from the past and brought them back and mixed them with something different for the future, because it’s been on for a b****y long time and it has to be different. So I think they’ve made, I’m getting emotional now too, they’ve made a brilliant mix.’

To which an also emotional Rylan commenting on Emma’s near tears: ‘Oh no, don’t, please don’t.’  

The news was announced earlier on Friday, just hours before the launch night, with an official statement issued on Twitter, which said: ‘The forthcoming series of Big Brother will be the last – of either celebrity or civilian versions – on Channel 5.’  

Big Brother 2018 continues on Sunday at 9pm on Channel 5.
