Breeders Cup: Man arrested for ‘sneaking’ onto a horse while drunk and almost getting onto the famous Kentucky course

A RACE-GOER has been arrested after allegedly “sneaking”‘ onto a horse while drunk and nearly getting onto the Breeders’ Cup course.

Police say Michael Wells-Rody, 24, came out of the tunnel, clambered on a horse and was “loud and disorderly” when asked to dismount” at the famous Kentucky venue..

The police report also described him as being “manifestly under the influence of alcoholic beverages” when he “sneaked into a restricted area he was not authorised to be in” and mounted.

Wells-Rody has since been charged with alcohol intoxication in a public place and disorderly conduct, according to local newspaper, the Kentucky Herald Leader

He is due to appear in court on Monday.

The $6million (£4.6m) Breeders’ Cup Classic at Churchill Downs, Louisville, was eventually won by Accelerate, ridden by Joel Rosari.

The race is one of the top events on the US racing calendar.

Meanwhile, Frankie Dettori helped Enable make history on only its third outing this season.

No other horse has followed up victory in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe victory by triumphing in the Breeders’ Cup Turf.

The four-year-old held off Irish rivalr Magical by less than a length.

Dettori had been in equally brilliant form earlier to guide Expert Eye to first place in the Breeders’ Cup Mile.

It meant ten-time champion trainer Sir Michael Stoute has finally tasted success in the prestigious one-mile race.
