AMAL Clooney has dramatically QUIT as special envoy for the UK government in fury at Boris Johnson’s controversial Brexit bill.
Blasting the Internal Market bill “lamentable”, the top human rights lawyer said she was ‘disappointed’ to have to resign because ‘I have always been proud of the UK’s reputation as a champion of the international legal order”.
“However, very sadly, it has now become untenable for me, as Special Envoy, to urge other states to respect and enforce international obligations while the UK declares that it does not intend to do so itself,” she added.
Clooney, who is married to Hollywood A-lister George, had been the UK’s special envoy on media freedom since April 2019.
