BREXITEERS could end up on the guillotine, a top Eurocrat suggested today in a bizarre rant.
Guy Verhofstadt compared Jacob Rees-Mogg, Boris Johnson and Michael Gove to the leaders of the French Revolution.
And he concluded by pointing out that all the chief revolutionaries got executed by their former followers.
Mr Verhofstadt, the European Parliament’s chief Brexit envoy, is known for his hard line on Britain.
Today he mocked the chief Brexiteers, who were recently compared to French Revolution figures by a website.
He said: “I know that in within the Tory party the hard Brexiteers are compared to the leaders of the French revolution.
“I think Gove is Brissot, Boris Johnson Danton, Jacob Rees-Mogg Robespierre.

“But we should not forget that the efforts of these men were not appreciated by the common men they claimed to represent, because they all ended up at the guillotine – so that’s important to remind.”
Mr Verhofstadt today held talks with Brexit Secretary Guy Verhofstadt and Cabinet Office Minister David Lidington.
He has repeatedly warned that the current Brexit deal can’t be changed and hit back against attempts to put limits on the hated Irish backstop.
