A car towing a caravan the wrong way down the M40 motorway was involved in a series of crashes just minutes after police were alerted to the danger.
The car, travelling in the wrong direction of the M40 in South Oxfordshire, collided with two vehicles near junction six.
Traffic is tailing back for almost six miles as two lanes out of three are closed on the southbound carriageway to allow access for emergency services.

A shocking video, above, shows the moment the car comes past in the wrong direction.
Highways England said there are 90 minutes of delays for drivers on the southbound carriageways, causing chaos for drivers on the way home.
A spokesman for Thames Valley Police, who appealed for anyone with dashcam footage of the incident to contact the police, said: ‘At just before 4pm today the force received reports of a car towing a caravan travelling in the wrong direction on the northbound carriageway of the M40.
‘A few minutes later, the car towing the caravan was in collision with two other vehicles near junction six.’

It was not yet known whether anyone was killed or injured in the incidents which happened soon after 4pm tonight in South Oxfordshire.
Thames Valley Police added: ‘We would urge anyone with footage of the collision, or of the car towing the caravan to contact police as soon as possible. We would ask that people refrain from sharing footage or photos of either the collision or the vehicles involved.
‘Both carriageways of the M40 remain closed.’
