Carnival cruise passengers scream in terror as Caribbean bound liner lists violently sending tables and chairs flying

PASSENGERS on-board a luxury cruise were left screaming when the liner jerked violently, sending plates, chairs and tables flying.

People on the Carnival Cruise Line described the “pure chaos” after it listed to one side hours after leaving Florida.

Pictures show the dining area trashed, broken plates and glass over the floor, cabins in disarray and duty free booze and fags littered across the deck.

The 102,000-ton passenger-ship was on its way to Eastern Caribbean on Sunday.

Passenger David Crews, of Long Island, New York, told News 6 people were left screaming and crying.

Carnival Cruises has since apologised, blaming a faulty “fin stabiliser”.

The ship’s captain sent customers a letter on Monday to say sorry for the “incident” and offered them all $50 credit to spend on-board.

Fin stabilisers are mechanical devices on the bottom of the hull which stops the ship rolling while in motion.

The captain’s letter read: “I want to take this opportunity to once again apologise for the listing incident which occurred Sunday evening and provide you with some additional information.”

It added: “We have identified that an electrical switchboard malfunction impacted the use of the fin stabilisers.

“There was never any issue with the safe operation of the ship and our officers quickly intervened.”

The cruise had been due to return to Port Canaveral on Friday.

Some passengers chose to leave early, disembarking in Dominican Republic on Tuesday.

The Carnival Sunshine was launched in 1996.

One of the oldest in its fleet, the ship had a major refurbishment in 2013.

A day before the incident, engineers worked on the vessel to upgrade its internet.

It is scheduled to leave today on an an eight-day trip to Southern Caribbean.
