The group formed a chain and chanted: “What do we want? Animal liberation! When do we want it? Now.”
They brought in a piglet stuffed toy on a plate and brandished signs saying “humane murder is a lie” and “it’s not food it’s violence”.
Stunned families, with children, looked on as the group stood and protested within the popular restaurant.
Clips shared by the organisation, Direct Action Everywhere, shows one protester – a young woman – claiming she was pushed to the ground by an officer.
And others said a riot van was sent to the restaurant, but cops said this was just an officer carrier used on weekends throughout the city.
Sussex Police said “nothing of what they’re citing” took place, and said when all members agreed to leave they continued to peacefully protest outside, the MailOnline reports.
A spokesperson for the group said they were there “to speak up against the oppression of our fellow animals who are used and abused, whose screams go unheard or fall on uncaring ears.”
Adding: “We are fighting for animal liberation.”
