Cheese may not be as a bad for us as we all thought… and everything is right with the world

LISTEN up cheese lovers because we have some seriously good news.

According to some new research, the incredibly indulgent dairy stuff we put on toasties and on top of pizzas isn’t quite as bad for us as everyone thought.

The new study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition concluded that dairy-lovers who regularly eat cheese, milk, yoghurt and full-fat products are not more at risk of developing heart problems in later life.

In a study of almost 3,000 people over the course of 22 years, researchers found that the saturated fat found in dairy had little effect on the participant’s health as they got older.

The study’s lead author Marcia Otto concluded that the “findings not only support, but also significantly strengthen, the growing body of evidence which suggests that diary fat, contrary to popular belief, does not increase the risks of heart disease or overall mortality in older adults.”

In other words, this news has basically given us permission to gorge ourselves on cheese all weekend long.

Because while cheese was once seen as a one-way street to heart disease, the medical community are now focusing on how excess sugar and simple carbs pose a greater health risk.

As part of the greater crackdown on sugar, more research has found that those on a low-fat (and therefore high in sugar) diet were more likely to put on weight than those following a low-carb lifestyle.

Another study of 135,000 people across the world concluded that people on a low-fat diet were at greater risk of heart disease than those on a low-carb plan.

So while it may be time to give up those sugary coffees, we’ve taking this as the perfect excuse to indulge in more dairy. Somebody pass the halloumi.
