Children left stranded 170ft in the air after New Year’s Eve ride breaks down at Rennes fairground

FAIRGROUND thrillseekers have been left stranded 170ft in the air after a ride broke down on New Year’s Eve.

Firefighters are racing to rescue the six adults and two children stuck 52m – 170ft – in the basket of a carousal in Rennes, the capital of Brittany in France.

Firefighters are racing to reach the attraction and will have to make the eight people stuck – including two children – abseil down the attraction.

At the scene, Journalist Samuel Nohra tweeted: “The Firefighters will go up to 52m and then make the 8 people abseiling including two children stranded.

“They are well and have to be patient”.

Dramatic footage shows firefighters beginning their ascent to reach those trapped.
