A TOP mandarin ended up chatting to Gary Barlow after a bizarre No10 mix-up, it was claimed today.
The senior civil servant rang Downing Street to try and speak to Gavin Barwell – Theresa May’s powerful chief of staff.
But a phone operator accidentally put him through to Take That frontman Mr Barlow instead, the Daily Mail reported.
No10 apparently had the singer’s mobile number thanks to previous chats between him and Government ministers.
The Downing Street switchboard, known simply as “Switch”, is legendary for its 24/7 service and ruthless efficiency.
Whitehall insiders say the skilled operators are able to contact more or less anyone, wherever they are in the world.
A source told the Mail: “Switch has numbers for all sorts of people.
“Anyone who has dealt with them will be on its database.”
