CLEANING up after your kids can be costly. During the long summer break, parents can spend hours sorting out the mess little ones have made — or the clothes they have trashed.
But there are some quick tricks to clean up on the cheap . . .
STAIN SAVER: Research shows we bin more than £12billion worth of clothes every year, with a lot of discarded clothes deemed stained beyond rescue. According to chats on parenting forum Netmums, white chalk can be a lifesaver when it comes to grease. Just rub it on before washing and it should absorb the stain. Pretty cool when you can get a pack of chalks for just 65p at amazon.co.uk.
CIF CRAZE: As careful as we try to be in our white trainers, it’s impossible to keep them gleaming. But there is a new viral trick to keeping them all-white. Pick up Cif Perfect Finish Mould Stain Remover spray from Wilko for £2 (down from £4). Fill a sink with water and add a quarter of a cup of bleach, grab an old toothbrush, scrub the shoes with Cif, then soak them in the sink for ten minutes. Put them on a 40-degree wash, preferably inside a pillow case. This can help old trainers look brand new.
MARKER MAYHEM: Out of sight, out of mind, definitely not. Even when you think you’ve hidden all the pens, suddenly a beautiful drawing appears on the wall. Well, fear the pen no more. Get some Oral B Complete Extra White toothpaste for £1 at Tesco, get scrubbing and watch the drawings disappear. Baking soda and a damp cloth also works well.
HOLY POLIGRIP: And for my next trick, keep your playrooms and furniture (especially sofas) clean with Poligrip denture overnight whitening tablets.
Pop four tablets into a spray bottle and mix with water. Get spraying and watch the dirt disappear. You might need to scrub those more stubborn stains on your sofa a bit harder. Buy Poligrip tablets for £1.49 at Superdrug.
