Colin Farrell was so hungover on set of Minority Report it took him 56 takes to say one line

Colin Farrell has told how he was once so hungover on the set of blockbuster film Minority Report that it took him 56 takes to say a difficult line.

The Irish actor, 43, went on a boozy night out before filming the scene to celebrate his 25th birthday and said he asked the crew could he have his birthday off work.

Speaking to The Mirror, he said: ‘I thought a million dollar film would at least listen to that request…but I worked. It was a rough night and I didn’t get any sleep.’

Colin played justice agent Danny Witwer in the film opposite lead actor Tom Cruise and British actress Samantha Morton.

He added: ‘The line was: “I’m sure you’ve grasped the fundamental paradoxical pre-crime methodology”. I only know it know, still, 16 years later because it caused so much panic and anxiety.

‘My sister was on the set that day and she had to leave the set after 56 takes. I was a disaster.’

Colin has been open about his battles with alcohol addiction in the past and checked into Meadows rehab facility in 2018 after he began to crave drugs following a gruelling work schedule.

The actor, who is father to children James, 15, and Henry, nine, previously said he checked into rehab after filming Miami Vice in 2005.

Speaking to The Mirror in 2013, he said: ‘It was interesting because I couldn’t remember a single frame of doing it.

‘I was at the premiere and didn’t know what was happening next. But it was strange because I was in it.

The second it was finished I was put on a plane and sent to rehab as everyone else was going to the wrap party.’

Despite stumbling over a line on Minority Report, Colin previously recalled how he was regularly able to work 14-hour days in the past after partying until 5 in the morning.

He said: ‘I wouldn’t miss a beat, wouldn’t  miss a mark, wouldn’t drop a line. I was very professional so I got away with murder for years.’

In recent years, Colin has appeared in action film Widows with Liam Neeson and Viola Davis and Tim Burton’s Dumbo with Michael Keaton and Danny DeVito.

He is slated to star in upcoming crime film The Gentlemen which is directed by Guy Ritchie and also stars Matthew McConaughey.
