According to local media, El Tio’s operations expanded following his release and at one point he was trafficking at least 10 tons of cocaine to the US and Europe every month.

He was held in the city of Medellin. It is believed his son snitched because El Tio was having an affair with his wife.

El Tio also had sex with underage girls and police found an altar at his home where he practised black magic, according to reports.

Officials are said to have seized 300 of his properties across Colombia, Mexico and the US in an ongoing operation.

Another gang member called Chepe is understood to have jumped from a third-floor window when he noticed the cops raiding his home.

Reports said that he died while trying to escape.
