A COMEDIAN with no political experience is set to become president of Ukraine in a landslide victory – after playing a teacher who accidentally becomes the president on a TV show.
Exit polls suggest Volodymyr Zelensky, 41, has won more than 70 pr cent of the votes in yesterday’s election against incumbent president Petro Poroshenko.

The funnyman, a fan of Britain’s Monty Python and Benny Hill, starred in Ukrainian TV show Servant of the People.
He has said he sees Russia’s Vladimir Putin as an enemy and highlighted corruption and social injustice during his campaign.
After casting his vote on Easter Sunday, Zelensky said: “Today it will be the victory of Ukrainians, the victory of Ukraine, and – I hope – the victory of a fair choice.”
If the exit polls are correct, he will be elected for a five-year term and hold significant powers over Ukraine’s security, defence and foreign policy.
The comic kissed his wife Olena and celebrated with supporters at his Kiev HQ after the result of the first exit polls were announced last night.
In a TV debate against his billionaire opponent Poroshenko last week, Zelensky said: “I’m a simple human who came to break this system.

“I am the result of your mistakes and [unfulfilled] promises. I am a verdict on you [Poroshenko].”

Zelensky, who entered a Ukrainian TV talent show aged 17, became a household name after appearing on the country’s version of Dancing With The Stars in 2006.
He dominated the first round of voting three weeks ago when 39 candidates were on the ticket.
His policy plans remain unclear but he has promised to purge corrupt officials and said he wants to meet Putin to end the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
