CORONATION Street’s Gemma Winter is horrified as she learns the truth about Henry Newton as he fails to buy the Rovers Return for her next week.
The Newton & Ridley brewery heir – played by George Banks – was trying to woo Gemma (Dolly-Rose Campbell) after she dumped him at the start of the year after finding out he was only dating her as part of a cruel prank.
Gemma was initially suspicious of Henry, but when he revealed he was planning to buy her the Rovers Return as a sign of his love, she was won over.
However, Henry has been seen hiding calls from his father and acting suspiciously, while Chesney Brown (Sam Aston) overheard him taking a dodgy-sounding call.
And as Leanne (Jane Danson) and Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor) prepare to leave the Rovers and hand over the reins to Henry and Gemma, Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) points out that according to his solicitor, Henry still has not signed the contract.
Henry reveals some shocking news to a devastated Gemma, who realises her dream of being the landlady is over, for now.

He later apologises to Gemma and begs her for forgiveness, but it’s too late as Johnny Connor (Richard Hawley) and his wife Jenny Connor (Sally Ann Matthews) end up buying the famous boozer.
Despite being initially devastated that her dream of co-owning the pub has hit the buffers, Gemma calls into the Rovers and Jenny offers her an olive branch.
The new landlady suggests Gemma might like to work behind the bar, and the kebab shop employee buries her pride to accept the job.
But is she really over it? And what is Henry’s big secret?
Henry – the son of Philip Newton, the grandson of Cecil Newton and heir to the Newton & Ridley brewery fortune as well as the director of the brewery that supplies the Rovers Return on Coronation Street – met Gemma at a party last year.
He was soon smitten with her for being a breath of fresh air, miles away from the girls he usually dated – although she fibbed and told him her name was Jemima and she was a nurse.
Things turned sour when Chesney overheard Henry talking to his friend Hugo while they were on a double date at the Bistro, and Hugo started laughing about how fiery Gemma was and how he was going to win a bet.
A concerned Chesney tried to tell Gemma the truth, but it was only when she heard Hugo saying to Henry how he believed he’d fallen for “it” that she realised what was going on.
