Coronavirus news update – London vaccine take-up falls behind UK average & covid ‘will kill Brits for rest of our lives’

LONDON’s vaccine take up has fallen behind the national average – as experts warned Covid will kill Brits “for the rest of our lives”.

Professor Chris Whitty said Londoners have shown great enthusiasm for vaccine – but rates in the capital are about 10% lower than other areas.

It came during the Government’s press conference on Monday evening, where Mr Johnson formally announced June 21 lockdown lift will be delayed.

The Government science adviser said vaaccination rates are always lower in London as people tend to move around a lot with a large influx of people entering and exiting the city. And Mr Whitty warned Brits would have to live with hospitalisations and deaths “for the rest of our lives”.

Also during the presser, the Prime Minister said Britain’s ‘Freedom Day’ would be delayed by four weeks to get “more vaccines into the arms of those who need them”.

As a result, Britain’s new date for lockdown lifting is July 19th, although a review will take place in two weeks time which could see things accelerated.
