Coronavirus UK LIVE: Boris Johnson says ‘we are past the peak’ as deaths hit 26,711

PRIME MINISTER Boris Johnson chaired his first press briefing in a month yesterday and promised to share an extensive plan to end the lockdown next week.

Mr Johnson – who was at Carrie Symonds’ side as she gave birth to their son on Wednesday – is delaying paternity leave to help in the battle against coronavirus.

The PM said the UK is now “past the peak” of coronavirus but braced Brits for more weeks of lockdown.

It came as the UK’s death toll reached 26,711 on Thursday – up by more than 600.
