ALMOST 50 million jabs have been given in the UK as coronavirus deaths continue to plunge.
Latest figures show a total of 49,287,257 Covid vaccines have been as the Herculean jab rollout continues.
Almost 15 million people have now received a second dose, with 34,346,273 being given a first jab.
It comes as Covid dropped by 78 per cent in a week with seven fatalities recorded on Saturday.
Meanwhile, those aged 40 and over were told they are now eligible to get the jab with health bosses expanding the scheme to a million more adults.
And it was revealed over 35s are expected to start being offered vaccines by May 10.
England’s deputy chief officer Jonathan Van-Tam urged the public to hold on just “a teeny bit longer” to accommodate the vaccination programme.
Officials are confident rules will be relaxed by late June, as the majority of over-50s should have received both jabs by then.
