A COSTA Coffee advert poking fun at trendy avocados has been banned by killjoys after two people complained.
The “light-hearted” radio ad claimed customers would be better off with a bacon roll.
The advert suggested that customers should pop-in to Costa and grab a bacon roll rather than splurge on avocados[/caption]
A voiceover said: “Oh, there’s a great deal on ripen-at-home avocados. Sure, they’ll be hard as rock for the first 18 days, three hours and 20 minutes, then they’ll be ready to eat for about ten minutes, then they’ll go off.
“For a better deal head to Costa Coffee and grab a delicious, piping-hot bacon roll or egg muffin.”
Bosses said they were not telling listeners to make a definitive choice.
And Radiocentre, the industry body for commercial radio, thought it “unlikely” most people would regard it as a serious comparison.
Advertising Standards said the advert discouraged the selection of healthy opinions such as fruit and veg[/caption]

But the Advertising Standards Authority said the ad breached rules that comparisons between foods must not discourage the selection of healthy options such as fruit.
