Music is definitely an acquired taste when it comes to certain genres. While one song can climb the charts, it may not be everyone’s cup of tea. Fortunately for us, you can find a cover of damn near every song out there. These are some of our favorites.
Toto – Africa (metal cover by Leo Moracchioli feat. Rabea & Hannah)
Africa by Toto metal cover
Amy Winehouse – Valerie
Valerie by Amy Winehouse is a cover- I don’t think that gets brought up in these sorts of threads.
The original is by a band called the Zutons.
They Might Be Giants – Istanbul (Not Constantinople)
It may surprise you to know that the nerd-rock classic “Istanbul, Not Constantinople” by They Might Be Giants is actually the far superior cover of an earlier tune by a less known band
Led Zeppelin – When the Levee Breaks
Led Zeppelin’s When the Levee Breaks
Devo -Girl U Want
Devo’s version of “Girl U Want” that was used for the opening credits of Tank Girl.
Devo originally recorded a very Devo-y song called “Girl U Want” that ended up being used in the film Revenge of the Nerds. Soundgarden did a Soundgarden-y cover of “Girl U Want” that director Rachel Talalay really wanted to use for Tank Girl, but Soundgarden wanted a stupid amount of money for rights to their version. It ended up being cheaper to ask Devo to get back together and re-record their song to sound more like the Soundgarden version.
As far as I’m concerned, Devo’s cover of Soundgarden’s cover of Devo’s “Girl U Want” is the best version of the song.
The Fugees – Killing Me Softly>/strong>
Killing Me Softly by The Fugees.
Roberta Flack’s original version was good, no doubt, but Lauryn Hill’s version slaps hard til this day!
Alien Ant Farm – Smooth Criminal
Anyone say Alien Ant Farm’s Smooth Criminal?
The Ataris – Boys of Summer
I’ve always liked the cover of “The boys of summer” by The Ataris better than the original by Don Henley. The original is still good, but the punk take on the song that the Ataris did is awesome.
Tool – No Quarter
Tool did a cover of Zeppelins No Quarter and it is really freaking good
Disturbed – The Sound of Silence
The Sound of Silence. The cover by Disturbed actually beat the original in a poll hosted by a German radio station when it first came out, and the people who made the original actually supported the cover.
Anyway, Disturbed has a history of talking about social stuff, so I’m sure that, sooner or later, they would’ve made a song like that anyway.
Joe Cocker – With a Little Help From My Friends”
“With a Little Help From My Friends” by Joe Cocker (originally by The Beatles)
Anyone else – ANY Beatles song
Every. single. Beatles. cover. EVER
Halestorm – Heathens
Didnt like the song at all until Halestorm did it. Then I found the appeal the rest of the world did.
I Prevail – Blank Space
Blank space by I prevail
John Mayer – Free Fallin’
Free Falling-John Mayer
Colin Hay – Overkill
As opposed to the more well know Men at Work version.
Oasis – My Generation
If you don’t put “My Generation- Oasis” on there I will come to Texas and pump you into oblivion
Editor’s Note: Don’t worry Hendy. I got you.
