Covid UK news LIVE – Brits face being trapped abroad in hotel rooms for two weeks if they test positive for coronavirus

BRITS could face being trapped in hotel rooms abroad for two weeks if they test positive for coronavirus.

New laws introduced this week will force travellers to show a negative Covid test up to 72 hours before they board a plane, boat or train to Britain.

It comes as the Government is reportedly planning a “crackdown” with even tougher rules to keep people at home, amid pressure from scientists and politicians that current restrictions are not working.

A further 563 deaths in the UK have been reported today – taking the overall the total to 81,431.

The number of daily cases of people who tested positive for coronavirus increased by 54,950.

The NHS has also revealed it is currently operating at 50% higher patient capacity than it was during the peak of the first wave of coronavirus last summer.
