THE GOVERNMENT is planning a lockdown “crackdown” with even tougher rule to keep people at home after the UK saw its deadliest day.
The Government is considering taking tougher enforcement action amid pressure from scientists and Labour politicians to introduce further restrictions., according to a report by the Telegraph.
The UK recorded 1,325 virus deaths yesterday – its highest ever daily toll – 101 cases higher than the death toll of 1,324 recorded during the peak of the first wave in April.
The NHS has also revealed it is currently operating at 50% higher patient capacity than it was during the peak of the first wave of coronavirus last summer.
London Mayor Sadiq Khan also yesterday called for face masks to be worn in large public spaces in the capital – including in supermarket queues – and demanded that churches and other places of worship be closed.
