Walt Disney Studios Now that the teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has dropped and given us some time to digest its potential, we can now start brainstorming ideas about what’s gonna happen.
Based on some of these theories I’ve found, this movie is gonna be bonkers.
The force is definitely with this one.
Walt Disney Studios The Skywalker lightsaber will play a huge part
This lightsaber has had one hell of a journey. It was crafted by Anakin, and he lost it during his battle on Mustafar. Obi-Wan then recovered it and gave it to Luke. He used it until the confrontation with Vader on Bespin, and it was lost until Maz Kanata found it. It then became Rey’s until she and Kylo Ren fought over it, and it split in half.
In the trailer, it looks like it’s been reforged and will be a key part to tie the whole Skywalker Saga together.
Walt Disney Studios The “Skywalker” in the film’s name is a new title
According to this Reddit theory, if you take The Last Jedi + The Rise of Skywalker, you get the suggestion that a “Skywalker” is the new name for the Jedi/force-user.
Much like how people that follow Jesus are Christians, Buddhists follow Buddha, etc…
Walt Disney Studios Emperor Palpatine and Darth Palgueis are one and the same
In Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, Palpatine tells Anakin about Darth Plagueis the Wise and how he had mastered death, and had taught his apprentice all he knew. What he didn’t tell him, was that Palpatine was his apprentice and the one who killed him. Which begs two questions: What if Palpatine didn’t survive that encounter, and the Darth Sidious we know, is actually a resurrected Darth Plagueis? Or, concurrently, what if Palpatine applied all he knew and secretly resurrected himself after the Battle of Endor and has been biding his time?
this theory that Plagueis knew he was gonna die, so he jumped into Palpatine’s body, then into Snoke, and at the end of The Last Jedi, now jumped into Kylo Ren. He essentially infects the Sith like a plague.
Walt Disney Studios Palpatine had his own uses for the clone factory on Kamino
There’s already a precedent for clones in the Star Wars canon with the clone troopers, as well as in the scrapped Expanded Universe. This theory suggests that Palpatine became a force ghost after his death, and had a secret cache of bodies hidden somewhere.
What if Supreme Leader Snoke was one of those bodies, but the dark energy of the Dark Side ravaged his body? This explains how he came out of nowhere, got all the power that he did, and why he’s so fascinated with Kylo and Rey.
This would be a good way to close off some connections to the prequel trilogy.
Walt Disney Studios The destroyed Death Star will hold all the secrets
This is where Vader and Luke fought, where Vader and the Emperor died. If you know your Star Wars history, then you also know that lightsabers and the death star laser were powered by Kyber crystals.
What if the film is a race between Rey and the Resistance, and the Knights of Ren, led by Kylo, to get whatever is hiding in the destroyed station on Endor?
J.J. Abrams is all about the search for a MacGuffin, and a quest to find the Death Star and/or the remains of the Emperor sounds fantastic.
Walt Disney Studios Someone else is repairing and wearing Kylo Ren’s helmet
After smashing it in The Last Jedi, you’d figure this is the last we’d see of the helmet, but you’d be wrong. Those aren’t Kylo’s hands welding it together. In fact, those hands aren’t even human.
We haven’t seen any footage of Kylo wearing the reconstituted helmet yet, but what if that’s the traditional helmet of the leader of the Knights of Ren. There have been rumours of Matt Smith having a role in the film, yet he’s denied this repeatedly. Maybe he’s the new leader and there’s a struggle for power between him and Kylo.
Walt Disney Studios Lando and Maz Kanata will be the Deus Ex Machina
There’s not a lot known about Billy Dee Williams’ role in the film. The trailer had him in the cockpit of the Falcon, where he belongs, flying beside Chewie. This theory suggests that he’s been closely working with Maz, and that’s how she got Luke’s weapon from Bespin. The two of them will offer some much needed insight and intelligence to the Resistance, then show up in the final battle to kick some First Order ass.
Walt Disney Studios Rey was created by the Force and Emperor Palpatine
There are several Reddit theories that try to explain Rey’s parentage, but this one does it best. It was revealed in the recent Star Wars comics, that Emperor Palpatine influenced the Midichlorians and impregnated Shmi Skywalker, to conceive Anakin. But he wanted a backup plan, in case something happened to successor #1.
He then influenced them again to cause Padme and Anakin to become pregnant with twins, but all that dark force energy caused Padme to die during childbirth. But they were hidden away from him, before he could corrupt them.
When he sensed that Vader wasn’t as dark as he wanted, and Luke wasn’t going to turn, he visited Jakku and had two nobodies conceive Rey, to create an even more powerful successor outside of the Skywalker line. But then he was killed before he could get to her.
Walt Disney Studios Rey will complete her training with the best Jedi in the galaxy
The trailer show’s us a super-powered Jedi knight version of Rey, but how does she complete her training? There’s this idea that we’ll get a scene or two of Yoda, Luke, Anakin, and Obi Wan as force ghosts serving as a supernatural Jedi Council and trainers, to elevate her to Jedi Knight.
It’d also be a nice send off for the major players in the Skywalker Saga.
Walt Disney Studios Chewbacca gets revenge for Han’s death
Wookie life debts are an unbreakable bond. As seen in Solo, Chewie owes Han a huge debt. They’ve been through a lot of shit, and it wasn’t easy for Chewie to see Han die. There’s a dropped plot point from The Force Awakens, where the Guavian Death gang chases Han and Chewie, as they’re searching for the Falcon. It’s these guys, and their leader Bala-Tik, that make the report to the First Order, putting Han on they radar and leading to his eventual death.
Then, after he’s taken care of them, Chewie will go after the First Order, Kylo Ren and General Hux.
Walt Disney Studios C-3PO will demonstrate that he’s a badass
There are rumors that after sitting on the sidelines for the first two movies of the new trilogy, he’ll take a step forward and be at the heart of the action.
He can be seen in the trailer in a chase scene with Finn and Poe, and there when they find the ruins of the death star. As well, set photos have revealed Threepio wielding Chewie’s bowcaster and bandolier. Never mind having a bad feeling about anything, anymore.
He’ll be that bad feeling for the First Order. R2, as well.
