Dad’s horror after filming giant RATS gnawing on loaves of bread outside Poundland in South London

A DAD was left horrified after spotting two giant rats gnawing on loaves of bread outside the back of his local Poundland.

Julio Cesar, 36, had taken his two-year-old daughter outside last Thursday to enjoy some fresh air when he spotted something scurrying.

When he passed by the back of Sutton High Street in South London, he saw two giants rats scuttling around and chewing on a bread delivery.

Chef Julio, originally from São Paulo in Brazil, said: “Something was moving between the bread that was stored on the floor outside.

“There were two or three rats eating from the delivery food left outside unattended.

“I was so shocked and then I got my phone and I started to record it all.

“As a father to a two-year-old girl I always think about the safety of my little princess – as every single father on this Earth does.

“On top of all my concerns about my own daughter, I realised I needed to share this with everyone as I felt responsible for the all others customers.

He added: “I hope this video will make a difference, and will make people working there think about others.”

A Poundland spokesman said: “Our store team began cleaning up that yard outside our store Thursday evening.

“Specialists will complete a full deep clean first thing tomorrow morning in that back yard. We’re grateful it was brought to our attention.”

This is not the first time Poundland has been criticised for its hygiene standards.

In 2018 a Poundland branch was fined nearly £1.2million after inspectors found an “out of control” infestation of mice.

The previous year, the high street company was slapped with a £134,000 fine after chocolate Santas gnawed on by rodents were found on its shelves.

Grease stains caused by months of mice activity were also found, as well as a partially eaten Easter egg.
