DARREN Bent has revealed he would be interested in following former team-mate Jermain Defoe to Scotland by joining either Celtic or Rangers.

The veteran striker is still looking for a new club after he was released by Derby County at the end of last season.

The 35-year-old spent the second half of last term on loan at Burton Albion before he was offered a pay-as-you-play deal with the League One side.

The ex-England international has now revealed he would be interested in following in his mate Jermain Defoe’s footsteps in playing his trade north of the border.

Bent told Sky Sports Goals On Sunday: “It’s something I’ve looked at before.

“There was a few links there and a few clubs, but it was back in the day. The timing wasn’t great for me as things were going pretty well for me down here (England).

“I think it’s fascinating though, as when you talk about Rangers and Celtic, you’re talking about arguably two of the biggest clubs in world football.

“Its definitely something I would want to do.”

Bent was released by the Rams after a loan spell at Brian Clough’s side where he scored two goals in 15 appearances as Burton were relegated from the Championship.

He has played for the likes of Ipswich TownCharltonSpursSunderland and Aston Villa throughout his 17-year senior career.

Bent played alongside Rangers boss Gerrard for England and he revealed back in September that he is “100 per cent” keen to work with the 38-year-old again.

Bent would bring bags of experience to the Ibrox, but last month he was labelled as “overweight and lazy” by former boss Paul Clement.
