A DARTH Vader balloon floats across the sky — but he comes in peace.
It was part of a mass ascent yesterday with 56 others ahead of the 41st Bristol International Balloon Fiesta.

It was made possible after a crowdfunding campaign raised enough to bring the infamous Star Wars villain to Britain for the first time since its construction in 2007.
More than 130 balloons will rise over thousands of spectators this weekend at Europe’s largest ballooning event.

A target of £10,000 was set to fund the Darth Vader balloon’s appearance, but the £4,500 raised ahead of the day was enough to achieve its goal.
It was joined by an equally fierce-looking black bear called The Oh Bear from Taiwan, which also made its first appearance on British shores.

The annual fiesta’s mass ascents usually begin from Friday morning but an extra flight was scheduled this year due to forecast rain and high winds.
It’s a not-for-profit event and receives no public funding despite costing over £750,000 a year to hold annually.
