Detectives find body of man in his 40s in the grounds of Petersfield home

Police are investigating after the body of a man in his 40s was found in the grounds of a £1.5million house on the South Downs.

Detectives descended on the property near Petersfield, Hampshire following the discovery on Sunday morning.

Witnesses said officers were seen using metal detectors to search the property’s extensive gardens in an apparent search for clues.

Hampshire Police say the death is currently being treated as unexplained. 

A spokesman said: ‘We were called at 9.40am on Sunday 11 November to a report that the body of a man in his 40s had been found in a garden in Midhurst Road, Petersfield.

‘Police attended the scene and a cordon remains in place at this time.

‘Formal identification of the man has not yet taken place. A post mortem examination is due to take place this afternoon.’ 

At least six officers were seen searching the grounds this morning.
