And they fear the former trusted White House insider could back up any fresh allegations with his legendary extensive notes.
Business Insider reports Bolton is said to have been the most prolific note-taker at the top level of the White House.
He stood out by filling legal pads with contemporaneous notes on exactly what was said in secret meetings, it is reported.
However, the report also points out he would have been obliged to hand over anything that contained classified information when he left the White House.
Trump infamously sacked Bolton in September saying he “disagreed strongly” with him on “many issues”.
The President made the announcement on Twitter as Bolton became the latest official to be sacked or resign during Trump’s time in office.
“I informed John Bolton last night that his services are no longer needed at the White House,” he said.
“I disagreed strongly with many of his suggestions, as did others in the Administration, and therefore I asked John for his resignation.”
According to CNN, the pair got into a “bitter argument” about the President’s controversial plan to meet the Taliban.
There is absolutely no evidence Bolton has held onto classified information however at the weekend it was reported he had signed a book deal to tell about his time working for Trump.
