With a jackpot of 13 million euros, the Lottery heritage starts Monday

Millions expected for the heritage: a big lotto is launched from Monday, to restore historical monuments in danger, driven by the free electron Stéphane Bern who wants to rally the French around this operation unique.

Announced the end of 2017 by the minister of Culture, Françoise Nyssen and long advocated by some elected officials, this initiative had been detailed at the end of may by the president and Emmanuel Macron, and by Stéphane Bern, host tv to which the head of State has entrusted a mission on the natural heritage.

The special draw of the Super Lotto “heritage Mission” will take place on 14 September

From Monday, tickets are on sale. The goal is to generate a large popular mobilization around a lottery and a game of bingo to finance the renovation of monuments. In total, 270 sites have been selected, of which 18 monuments in danger “iconic” that will be helped as a priority through the future revenues of the lottery, one from each of the metropolitan area and five from overseas, representing different facets of the heritage (religious, industrial…).

Among them, the house of the writer and traveller Pierre Loti in Rochefort (Charente-Maritime), of which the doors remain closed for five years in the expectation of a very expensive renovation, the old military fort, Fort-Cigogne in the archipelago of Glénan (Finistère), the villa Viardot in Bougival (Yvelines), which was acquired in 1874 by the Russian writer Ivan Turgenev, or even the home of Aimé Césaire in Fort-de-France (Martinique).

3 euros the grid, or 15 euros for the scratch game

The special draw of the Super Lotto “heritage Mission”, which will be repeated every year according to Emmanuel Macron, will take place on 14 September, the eve of the weekend of heritage Days. It will have a jackpot of 13 million euros, equivalent to that of a circulation outstanding of Friday the 13th. The grids, of which the validation will begin on Monday, will cost 3 euros.

The scratch game “heritage Mission”, also available from Monday, will have a maximum gain of 1.5 million euros, a sum unprecedented for this type of game. In total, 12 million tickets, a large format will feature 13 of the 18 most important monuments selected, and sold 15 euros a piece. The tickets will be offered for 4 to 6 months in 30,800 points of sale of the Française des jeux (FDJ), online and in a few emblematic sites during the heritage Days (castle of Chambord, Mont Saint-Michel…).

Players will have a one in three chance of winning at least 15 euros.

The JDF expected gains “exceptional”

The FDJ expects that this transaction, supported by an advertising campaign in tv, radio and the internet, gains “exceptional”, of 15 to 20 million euros, which will be assigned to a specific fund.

In detail, by purchasing a grid lotto, 25% of the bet will go to the funding of the French patrimony (0.75 euro), and 10% for the game from scratch (€1.52), specifies the JDF in a press release. “These 15 million euros is a drop of water,” stressed Stéphane Bern during the presentation of the transaction, while 5% of the classified monuments in France, approximately 2,000 masterpieces, are considered to be in a state of danger. But “they give the impression to the French that the heritage belongs to each one of them” and this “will make them want to engage”, was added to the facilitator, who himself will present on Monday “The issue heritage”, a short programme broadcast on France 2 at 20h35.

For the “Mr. Heritage” of the public service, this lotto has also submitted us to the test: he has threatened on Friday to leave at the end of the year his mission if he felt it to be a “cache-misère” or a “puppet-master”. “At the end of the year, we will see more clear. We will know if the Lottery heritage is a success. What I would like is that the French give me a reason. Including against the government and some people in the government departments,” he underlined in an interview to the newspapers of the group Ebra. The Culture minister said Friday, AFP to “want to, of course, that the drawing history for a lotto of the heritage to be a great success”.
