Dramatic moment police officer points weapon at ‘gunman’ in Leeds

This is the extraordinary moment a man appeared to point a gun at a police officer in the street during a tense stand-off yesterday.

The drama unfolded in Leeds shortly before 11am when West Yorkshire Police received a report of a man with what looked like a handgun.

Officers swooped on the area between the Kirkstall and Headingley areas of the city and a 48-year-old man was detained by a firearms officer using a Taser.

The man was arrested on suspicion of possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and remains in custody.

Police said a gas-powered BB gun was recovered at the scene following the incident on Queenswood Road.

Video footage showed the man being pinned to the ground by at least two police officers, with six of them at the scene in total as shouting could be heard.

The phrases ‘stay down’, ‘drop it’ and ‘you will listen’ were shouted, but it is not clear by whom. Someone was also heard saying ‘put that away now’ and the video ended.

A photograph showed the incident happening on a residential street with cars and a bus on the road.
