A DRINK-driver headed the wrong way down a city centre motorway after a bad day at work.

Her lawyer, Charles Waddell, said “she had had a particularly bad day at work” and bought a bottle of vodka for later in the evening.
He added: “She then decided she wanted to be on her own, so she stayed late at the office and drank half the bottle of vodka.
“Her husband and her mother rang her, concerned about why she wasn’t home.
“She didn’t want to worry the family, she felt she was safe to drive and unfortunately she got in the car.”
He added: “She has been driving for 21 years and she doesn’t have any endorsements on her licence in that time.
“She bitterly regrets what she has done and she’s been extremely concerned and worried about it since it happened.”
Police pulled her over after spotting her Toyota on the wrong side of the A167M in Newcastle.
She admitted drink-driving when she appeared before JPs in North Tyneside.
McNicholas, of Newcastle, was banned for 28 months with £528 in fines and costs.

Chair of the bench Susan Salam told her: “It is an unfortunate situation you’ve found yourself in and I suspect we should be grateful that there wasn’t an accident.
“This is a very high reading and normally I would involve probation, but given the help that you require I feel probation wouldn’t be helpful.
“We will deal with this with a financial penalty which reflects that high level.”
