EastEnders viewers are left ‘disgusted’ after viewing violent rape scene

EastEnders fans have expressed their outrage after a violent attempted rape scene was aired before the watershed on Thursday, leaving them feeling ‘disgusted, horrified and angry.’

In the show, Stuart Highway (Ricky Champ) was filmed beating Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) before forcing her up against the bar of the Queen Vic and grabbing her throat.

The landlady managed to free herself after whacking the brute over the head with a glass bottle, but the aggressive scenes left viewers unimpressed.

Many took to Twitter to complain that the BBC soap shouldn’t have aired the clip before 9pm, with one viewer writing: ‘EastEnders is far too nasty for before the watershed.’

While another shocked fan added: ‘I’m feeling very uncomfortable watching this right now.’

One commented: ‘What happened to the #watershed? Children will tonight have watched violence, abuse, sex and think it’s normal behaviour. It is not. I’m horrified and very angry. Very.’

Another said: ‘EastEnders last night was absolutely disgusting, to say it was before the watershed and kids watch it.’

MailOnline has contacted representatives of the BBC programme who declined to comment.

The episode saw Linda set out to manipulate Stuart into revealing he had shot himself, and that it wasn’t her husband Mick (Danny Dyer) – who is currently in jail for the crime.

But it eventually turned nasty once Stuart realised the reason behind Linda’s probing questions.

But thankfully the ending saw Mick’s wife pull out a recording device hidden in her iconic bun which held a clip of Stuart’s confession.

Meanwhile, images from the set of the BBC soap have emerged of Danny Dyer, who plays Mick Carter, shooting scenes.

It suggests the character will be released sometime soon – perhaps in time for Christmas.
