EastEnders viewers fear Jean Slater will be killed off after devastating cancer diagnosis

EASTENDERS fans fear that Jean Slater will be killed off after she was given devastating news about her cancer diagnosis in Thursday night’s episode.

Emotional scenes saw the beloved character, played by Gillian Wright, finally go to get her test results after running away from her illness – and her family.

Jean was told that she has stage three ovarian cancer

Unfortunately for the Slaters, it was not good news as Jean’s worst fears were confirmed by the doctor.

The character, who is mum to Stacey Fowler, was told that not only does she have ovarian cancer, but it is already at stage three.

The doctor explained: “I’m really sorry but our suspicions have been confirmed. You have ovarian cancer.

“At the moment it looks like it’s stage three so time is of the essence.”

Jean tried to put on a brave face

The doctor added that Jean will need to start chemotherapy in just two weeks time.

Jean remained silent as she put on a brave face, with Stacey understandably concerned as she asked how the treatment will interfere with her mum’s bipolar medication.

Realising how much pressure her illness was putting on her daughter, Jean decided that she was going to move out of the Slater home – with fans fearing that this meant she could soon be killed off.

One saddened viewer wrote: “For f**** sake, Jean better not die.”

Another added: “Please don’t kill Jean off, we love her.”

A third said: “If Jean dies I will riot.”

The Slaters were left panicked earlier this month when Jean disappeared and skipped important hospital appointments.

During Tuesday night’s episode, the family found her hiding in a caravan park, reluctant to face up to reality.

Thankfully, Stacey, her husband Martin, daughter Lily, and cousin Kat together managed to coax Jean from the caravan and take her back to Walford.
