Ed Buck appears in court with bail set at $4M for running a drug den

Democrat donor Ed Buck is now facing both federal and state charges over claims two men died and one narrowly escaped alive after he injected them with methamphetamine in his West Hollywood apartment.

Buck, 65, was charged by the Los Angeles District Attorney on Tuesday with battery causing serious injury, administering methamphetamine and maintaining a drug house.

In a complaint filed in a Los Angeles federal court on Thursday , the Drug Enforcement Agency claimed Buck not only injected two men with crystal meth after which they overdosed and died, but had also been giving the drug to another man during sex sessions every day for the past month.

The third man also suffered an overdose but survived.

The Hillary Clinton donor was taken in to federal custody this afternoon after being charged in United States District Court with providing methamphetamine to a man who died after receiving the drug intravenously.

He was arrested on Tuesday after a third man narrowly escaped death when he overdosed in his West Hollywood apartment last week

The legal action was prompted by the discovery that a 37-year-old man suffered an overdose at Buck’s apartment earlier this month, making him the third victim of the Democrat donor’s alleged fetish for injecting vulnerable black men with crystal meth.

After appearing in a LA county criminal court Thursday morning, Buck was charged by the US attorney and hauled over to a federal criminal courtroom in the afternoon.

Federal prosecutors claim Buck ‘provided methamphetamine that directly resulted in the overdose death of 26-year-old Gemmel Moore, who died in Buck’s apartment on July 27, 2017.’

The complaint also refers to a second man, Timothy Dean, 55, who died in Buck’s apartment from a drug overdose earlier this year, and claims that Buck ‘provided narcotics to a series of other men, one of whom suffered two overdoses several weeks ago.’

If convicted of the federal charges, Buck faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 20 years in federal prison and a statutory maximum sentence of life without parole.

The US attorney’s office said the case is being investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, with the support of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF).

The complaint, filed in US federal court today, says witnesses told a DEA agent that Buck ‘paid Moore in money and drugs in exchange for Moore to engage in sexual activities with Buck,’ and flew the young man to LA from Texas.

In July 2017 Moore was found ‘wearing only white socks’ and ‘unresponsive on the living room floor in Buck’s residence and was pronounced dead after the police arrived,’ the DEA agent wrote.

Dean was also found on the apartment floor in January this year ‘wearing only white underwear’, with a two rubber rings around his scrotum and penis, the document said.

The federal complaint reveals that Buck ‘continued to solicit men for sex and drug use’ after Dean’s death, as recently as July 2019, according to other alleged victims interviewed by the DEA.

Officers interviewed at least 10 alleged victims, one of whom told them that Buck ‘solicited him to engage in sexual activities and distributed methamphetamine to him nearly every day during approximately one month period from on or about July 29, 2019, to on or about September 6, 2019, while Victim 10 was living at Buck’s residence.’

‘According to Victim 10,’ the document said, ‘Buck intravenously injected methamphetamine into Victim 10 on September 4 and September 11, 2019, which caused Victim 10 to suffer overdose effects, requiring him to be transported to the hospital.’

The federal complaint, written by DEA task force officer John Mundell, lays bare the grim and perverted methods prosecutors claim Buck used.

According to officers, the 65-year-old forced his black and often young victims to wear white underwear and take increasing amounts of drugs while he watched and pleasured himself.

A text message exchange downloaded from Moore’s phone reveals how Buck flew the young man in from Houston, Texas in 2017 and had a private car take him to Buck’s West Hollywood apartment. ‘

Hey mr Buck’, Moore texted him on July 20 that year, with a photograph of his waist and crotch and the remark: ‘Gemmel your master slave.’

‘Or slave master,’ Buck replied. The complaint said Moore later texted him ‘I’m starting to miss la’, followed by a ‘close up photograph of an individual’s arm with a tourniquet around it and syringe inserted into it’, and a question mark.

Buck responded the next morning: ‘Be here now.’

After Moore arrived at LAX Buck texted ‘I see you’re landed and are going to gate 50 B terminal five… I will have a Nissan Murano tan with a black man driving waiting for you outside the terminal.’

CCTV footage showed Moore dressed in black sweat pants and a dark jacket at Buck’s apartment complex getting out of the Murano SUV and meeting Buck at the entrance.

Responding to a 911 call later that day, Sheriff’s deputies found the 26-year-old lying dead on a mattress in Buck’s living room, a puncture mark on his left inside elbow.

The Democrat donor told police Moore was a friend from Texas, he had injected meth and smoked marijuana in the restroom three hours earlier, but that he didn’t see Moore do it.

Buck added that while the two men were lying on the mattress watching TV he noticed Moore was hot to the touch, so put ice packs on his chest.

When Moore dozed off, Buck said, he went to his bedroom for a few minutes and when he returned Moore was unresponsive.

He told officers he called his neighbor who tried CPR on Moore while Buck called 911.

The officers who searched the apartment found around 24 syringes and 5 glass pipes used for meth, as well as 1.76 grams of the drug in the apartment, stashed in a tool box with ‘various sex toys’.

One alleged victim who talked to police said Buck kept plastic bins full of white, gray and black men’s underwear, ‘neatly folded and separated by size’, and said the Hillary Clinton donor told him he had a ‘strong underwear fetish’.

Other alleged victims who survived their experience with Buck told investigators they believe Buck injected them with drugs in their sleep.

One man claimed that on July 3 2017 he fell asleep on Buck’s couch and awoke to find his arm red, sore and tied to the couch.

Another alleged victim, who Buck paid $100-200 per hour to have sex and take drugs, woke up in Buck’s apartment feeling ill. He was taken to hospital the next day, and doctors confirmed he had ‘ingested a tar-like substance’.

Men who spoke to the DEA claimed Buck pushed them to take more and more drugs, offering them cash to push their limits.

One alleged victim told law enforcement that after meeting Buck on male dating site Adam4Adam, the West Hollywood donor offered him money to ‘party and play’, meaning taking drugs and having sex.

Buck offered the man between $800 and $1,000, and had him snort cocaine on the kitchen table in his apartment, the complaint claims.

According to the federal document, ‘Buck repeatedly encouraged [one victim] to do more drugs, and offered to give him more money if he would use more drugs.’

Buck dressed dressed the victim ‘in white undergarments and pleasured himself while he stared at [his] bulge in the white undergarments,’ the officer’s report said.

Another alleged victim said when he refused to inject himself with crystal meth, Buck ‘became more forceful and insisted that [the victim] smoke more drugs.’

The Democrat donor told a fifth victim, according to prosecutors, that ‘it was not gratifying for him if [the man] did not ingest methamphetamine.’

Police were called to Buck’s apartment again on January 6 this year when his friend of 30 years, former gay porn star Dean, who went by the stage name Hole Hunter, overdosed on the living room floor.

According to the complaint, Buck told police Dean had texted him that night and came round to his apartment wanting sex.

He said he left him in the living room for five to 10 minutes and returned to find Dean with ‘multiple layers of clothing on his face’, ‘walking on his knees making “ape” noises’. Buck said Dean ‘fell backwards and stopped making noises’.

Buck said he then tried to save his friend by performing chest compressions on him, but waited for around 15 minutes before calling 911.

A neighbor called police saying they saw a plastic bag flung outside of Buck’s window that night. Deputies found a box inside with ‘several hypodermic syringes and glass cylindrical bulbous pipes, as well as baggies with powdery residue in them.’

Forensic analysis found both Buck’s and Dean’s DNA on the syringes and pipes, according to the DEA.

Local justice campaigner Jasmyne Cannick, who uncovered new evidence in the case and has pushed for charges to be brought against Buck for years, claims law enforcement sources say the West Hollywood donor will also face face homicide charges after his arraignment.

A spokesman for the FBI confirmed to DailyMail.com that the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) is handling a federal case against Buck, though the DEA itself did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Buck’s bail documents reveal that he is officially a suspect in the deaths of two men, Gemmel Moore, 26, and Timothy Dean, a-55-year-old gay porn actor, in his apartment from crystal meth overdoses.

The donor, who has contributed almost $1million to both local Democrats and Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign, was arrested on Tuesday after a third 36-year-old man overdosed in his apartment, narrowly escaping death.

Cannick led a campaign claiming local police and the DA failed to prosecute Buck because of racial bias as his alleged victims were vulnerable black men. She helped victim Moore’s family launch a lawsuit against both Buck and DA Jackie Lacey.

‘This is a victory for our community because it says our lives matter. Black queer lives matter,’ Cannick told DailyMail.com. ‘I’m really happy for the families. They’re ecstatic. It just goes to show perseverance and persistence pays off. It’s been two years now.

‘It shows even with someone like Ed Buck, a white Democrat who somehow has money and privilege, if we just keep screaming long enough, we can get justice.

‘Jackie Lacey refused to prosecute Ed Buck for the death of Gemmel Moore last July, and here we are today, finally, and he is going to be prosecuted.

‘I’m happy that he is being moved into federal custody and that this case is not going to be tried by her office.’

The Los Angeles District Attorney wrote in a memo to a judge requesting $4million bail that Buck is ‘a violent, dangerous sexual predator’ and his ‘aggressive and malevolent behavior led to the death of two men in Buck’s apartment.’

The memo confirms that buck ‘is not only facing the current filed charges, but he is also still a suspect in the deaths of Gemmel Moore and Timothy Dean,’ while his arrest warrant is signed by an officer in the LAPD’s homicide squad.

In the scathing bail memo, the prosecutor wrote that the Democrat donor ‘manipulates his victims into participating in his sexual fetishes’, which include ‘supplying and personally administering dangerously large doses of narcotics to his victims.’

‘Not deterred by the senseless deaths of Moore and Dean,’ the memo claims, ‘the defendant nearly killed a third victim last week.

‘The defendant’s predatory acts and conscious disregard for human life must be stopped.’

Buck was set to be arraigned Thursday but the judge, Francis Bennett II, delayed the case until October 11. Bail was agreed at $4 million.

Federal agencies are yet to file charges over the alleged homicide case against the wealthy donor.

Authorities allege that Buck personally injected drugs into a man who survived an overdose this month.

The alleged victim entered Buck’s apartment and the donor ‘personally and deliberately’ administered a large dose of methamphetamine, according to the Los Angeles Times

Prosecutors say that the man grew concerned that he was given an exceedingly high dosage, and left.

The man is alleged to have returned to Buck’s apartment a week later on September 11.

Authorities allege that Buck again gave the man ‘two dangerously large’ doses of methamphetamine, resulting in an overdose.

Prosecutors allege Buck thwarted the man’s attempts to get help, but he managed to escape to a nearby gas station, where he called for help.

The man was rushed to hospital and treated.
