Ed Sheeran and Prince Harry team up for World Mental Health Day video

Prince Harry and Ed Sheeran have teamed up to show their support for World Mental Health Day today, in a video filmed inside Princess Eugenie’s cottage at Kensington Palace.

In the clip, shared to the Sussex Royal Instagram account, Ed Sheeran, 28, jokes to the Duke of Sussex, 35, that nobody understands what it’s like for ‘people like us’ – referring to the fact they are both red-headed.

However, Prince Harry highlights there must be a ‘misunderstanding’ between the two, as he actually invited him to film the video to help raise awareness of mental health and to get people talking.

But despite the comic angle of the video, a caption alongside the video highlights the important message and reads: ‘It’s World Mental Health Day! Both Prince Harry and Ed Sheeran want to ensure that not just today but every day, you look after yourself, your friends and those around you.’

It continues: ‘There’s no need to suffer in silence – share how you’re feeling, ask how someone is doing and listen for the answer. Be willing to ask for help when you need it and know that we are all in this together.’

The video, which has already received 380k views, begins by showing Ed getting his beard trimmed in a barbers ahead of his visit to see the royal.

‘Really excited today,’ he says. ‘Going to film with Prince Harry who contacted me about doing a charity idea with him, which is going to be good. I’ve long admired him…from afar. I guess I’ll see you there!’

It then cuts to the world-famous singer knocking on a front door with a simple white frame door featuring glass panelling.

In an amusing side note, the door bell rings a chime playing the ‘God Save The Queen’ National Anthem before Harry opens the door to the singer.

The royal jokes: ‘It’s like looking in the mirror’, as both red-headed men stare at each other, dressed in matching grey polo necks.

The Shape of You hit singer replies: ‘Do you mind if I bring the cameras in?’, to which Harry responds: ‘Of course, come on in’.

Prince Harry then thanks Ed for coming along and explains: ‘For me, this is a subject of a conversation that’s not talked about enough. I think people all over the world are really suffering.’

In agreement, Ed reveals he’s actually been trying to write a song about it to try and get the message out to people, to which Prince Harry responds:

‘Someone with your skill-set, to be able to write lyrics of a song to raise awareness would be amazing.’

But while the royal is referring to World Mental Health Day, in a comic turn of events, Ed Sheeran jokes: ‘That’s exactly what I’m trying to do – people don’t understand what it’s like for people like us.’

‘With the jokes and the snide comments. I just feel like it’s time we stood up and said: “We’re not going to take this any more. We’re ginger – and we’re going to fight.”‘

A rather confused-looking Prince Harry says ‘slightly awkward,’ before explaining: ‘This may be miscommunication, but this is about World Mental Health Day.’

‘No no, I definitely knew that,’ replies the singer, as he can be seen deleting the words “ginger’s unite” from a PowerPoint presentation he has started on his laptop.

However, as the video draws to an end, Prince Harry, who can be sitting on a sofa with Ed, gets serious and says: ‘Guys, this Mental Health Day, reach out, make sure your friends, strangers – lookout for anyone who may suffer in silence. We’re all in this together.’

Yesterday, the royal teased the surprise project on Instagram, which showed a glimpse inside the home revealed to be that of his cousin Eugenie – Ivy Cottage.

While the exact location was not initially clear, major clues now indicate the clip was made at Ivy Cottage, where Princess Eugenie, 29, lives with husband Jack Brooksbank, 33, in the grounds of Kensington Palace.

In one of the clips, Harry can be seen opening a white paneled door which is identical to one seen in images of Ivy Cottage, before inviting Ed into a hallway where there is a huge portrait of Princess Eugenie kissing Jack on their wedding day.

The three-bedroom cottage has been the home of Prince Harry’s cousin since 2017.

When she moved in, it was announced that she would be paying ‘market rent’ for the property, although the actual figure was not disclosed.

A comparable three-bedroom mews house in walking distance of Hyde Park would cost £3,500 a week – the equivalent of £182,000 a year.

Ivy Cottage is located across a small courtyard from Nottingham Cottage, the home where Harry lived with Meghan until April of this year.

Footage of Harry welcoming Ed to the property reveals a white front door with distinctive leaded glass, with previous photographs taken of Ivy Cottage revealing an identical door.

Meanwhile a black and white official portrait from Eugenie and Jack’s wedding can be seen hanging above a fireplace in the hallway.

The video also revealed the property’s trendy, yet understated, decor.

Along with the small fireplace, the hallway contains a small wooden writing desk, while a glass light shade hangs from the ceiling.

In the background of Prince Harry’s video, a doorway can be seen leading into the lounge, which is painted a light grey colour.

A sofa lined with orange cushions can be seen, and candles sit on display on a geometric black shelf, hanging from the kitchen ceiling.
