FRANK LAMPARD has given a lifeline to Chelsea hate-figure Jorginho.
The Italian midfielder was a scapegoat last season and was booed by his own fans for always passing sideways.
But new boss Lampard says last summer’s £57million signing is becoming a leader.
He said: “Jorginho became quite a conversation last year.
“But I’m actually looking at a player who has very much impressed me over the last 10 days.
“The one thing that struck me about him is not just his quality on the ball. I saw that last year.
“His attitude in training has been first-class. He’s a driver of a session. He’s a voice.
“He drags people up when he doesn’t feel they’re working as much as he might want.”
Lampard took training in front of 4,000 fans on their pre-season tour of Japan, with Jorginho partnering fellow misfit Tiemoue Bakayoko.
