Game of Thrones teaser shows Sansa handing over Winterfell to Daenerys Targaryen

HBO debuted a new trailer featuring a number of their shows returning in 2019, which included the first look at footage from the final season of Game of Thrones.

The brief glimpse of footage showed Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) setting foot on Winterfell soil for the first time, approaching with Jorah Mormont (Iain Glen).

Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) then tells Daenerys, ‘Winterfell is yours, your grace,’ with Daenerys smiling beside Jon Snow (Kit Harington).

Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie) is also seen behind Sansa as she hands over the Northern stronghold to Daenerys.

There is also a brief shot of one of Daenerys Targaryen’s dragons in the footage, although she managed to lose one of said dragons in Season 7.

The nefarious undead villain The Night King managed to both kill and resurrect Daenerys’ dragon Viserion, which he used to destroy The Wall at Eastwatch in the final moments of Season 7.

By the end of Season 7, Daenerys and Jon had become lovers, although neither of them are aware that they’re actually related.

While Snow has believed his entire life that he was the bastard son of Ned Stark (Sean Bean), he is actually the son of Ned’s sister and Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen.

Bran Stark, a.k.a. The Three-Eyed Raven (Isaac Hempstead Wright) revealed Jon Snow’s true linneage, which makes him the heir to the Iron Throne, and also the nephew of his new lover.

Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen were last seen in Season 7 aboard a boat heading for Winterfell, as they prepare to defend the North against the White Walkers.

HBO has confirmed that the six-episode final season will debut in April 2019, although a specific premiere date has not been given yet.

The premium cable network will also give fans an extra treat, a new reunion special that will be included on an upcoming Complete Series Blu-ray/DVD set.

The reunion special will bring back actors who played long-deceased characters on the show, such as Sean Bean.

There was also a special sneak peek at the season teased in December at Comic Con Experience in Brazil, which showed the Painted Table at Dragonstone being consumed by ice and fire.

The final season of Game of Thrones will also be the show’s shortest, spanning just six episodes.
