George Michael lookalike takes a selfie with Donald Trump after wowing the President

DONALD TRUMP has been wowed by a George Michael lookalike – from Scunthorpe.

Crooner Robert Lamberti performed for the US President last weekend after Trump’s aids watched him at another performance and were blown away.

Robert managed to sneak a selfie with the President and the First Lady

The 45-year-old, who has been impersonating the late singer for the past 25 years, found himself sitting adjacent to Trump after receiving a personal invite to his lavish Superbowl bash.

He performed for 30 minutes in front of around 400 people and before speaking personally to Trump, who thanked him for his show.

Robert is used to performing in clubs and pubs and his next gig is in Warwick.

He told The Sun: “It’s a case of ‘from Scunthorpe to performing in front of the President of the United States.

“I’ve played in lots of places, but never somewhere like that. I was nervous, which is normal, but by the end of my performance the dancefloor was full

“I didn’t see Mr Trump dance myself, as I was preoccupied, but I was told he did dance and requested a song – Careless Whisper.

“During the performance I sand seven songs which all went down well, especially the last one, Freedom, which had the whole room shouting the lyrics at the end.

“The security was very high there, understandably, and I was told not to record anything but I managed to get a few pictures – although I didn’t ask Mr Trump for a selfie.”

Robert was spotted by a Trump aid after appearing on the New York Apollo show last year, which was hosted by comedian Steve Harvey.

A week before his White House performance, Robert was in Dallas, recording a documentary on George Michael when he received a surprise call to perform at the US Veterans’ Ball at the President’s Mar-A-Lago home in Palm Springs.

Trump loved his performance so much, he asked Robert to extend his stay by 24 hours to attend his Superbowl barbeque at the exquisite Palm Springs Golf Club.

And he was handed a infamous MAGA hat as well as a ‘Make Giving Great Again’ one for the charity event which he waived his fee for.

Robert continued: “”I’ll never forget it – rubbing shoulders with billionaires at the Veterans’ Ball and then shaking hands with the President at the Superbowl dinner.

“He thanked me personally for my performance and said how much he enjoyed the gig.

“After that I was actually quite nervous about making a sudden movement – I was sat so close to the President’s table, and he was surrounded by so many aids and security men, I was worried that one sudden movement might see me shot!

“Not bad, though, for a guy who started off as a northern pub entertainer.”

Robert’s first taste of stardom came in 1994 when he made the final of ‘Stars In Their Eyes’.

And he met George Michael for the first time in 2006 at a promotional event for his album, 25 Live.

He now plans to go on tour this summer across the UK in a production called ‘George – celebrating the songs and music of George Michael’.
