German house destroyed by suspected gas blast as three remain missing

A woman was seriously injured, and a man and two children are believed to be buried in rubble, after a house was destroyed by a suspected gas explosion today. 

The three-storey building, in Allgau, Bavaria, in southern Germany, collapsed this morning.

The woman was rescued at noon after firefighters and the Bavarian Red Cross arrived at the scene, in the municipality of Rettenbach am Auerberg. 

Around 150 people are currently involved in the rescue operation.

One neighbour said: ‘The house collapsed like a house of cards. This is unbelievable.’  

A police spokesman said the cause of the accident was suspected to be a gas explosion.

Seven people are understood to be registered at the address, Welt reported. 

A family of three live at the property, while a flat was subleased to lodgers, who were not there at the time, according to Bild.
