But in an announcement, prosecutors revealed they had not been able to collect enough evidence to pursue charges.

Two women were said to have provided witnesses to corroborate their accounts. But they were among the cases declined by the prosecution due to insufficient evidence.

Prosecutors declared: “Those witnesses were not able to provide information that would enable the prosecution to prove either incident beyond a reasonable doubt.”

The Los Angeles District Attorney’s office was unable to contact the third alleged victim.

Investigators also revealed other women had made allegations of inappropriate touching against Westwick — but the claims fell outside the statute of limitations.

The first allegations against the actor surfaced last November, following the launch of the #MeToo movement and claims of abuse against movie producer Harvey Weinstein.

Kristina Cohen and Aurelie Wynn both claimed they were raped by Westwick — Chuck Bass in US drama Gossip Girl — in 2014.

He vehemently denied the claims.

The BBC axed him from an Agatha Christie drama and “paused” comedy White Gold following the allegations.
