Via HBO/Game of Thrones Let’s start this the same way all Game of Thrones posts start nowadays, with a spoiler warning. If you’re not totally caught up on Season 8, TURN BACK NOW. You have been warned…
Via HBO/Game of Thrones Well, you’re still here, so you must have watched Episode 5, The Bells, last weekend. Or you just don’t care anymore because this season has gone to shits, in my opinion anyway. Either way, you’re here now.
Via HBO/Game of Thrones First things first, I’ve read a million different fan theories for how this season will play out, and not one has happened. Not one! Which really sucks, because some of them have been more interesting than the actual show so far. Like the idea of dragon babies, “The Prince that was Promised” prophecy, which seems to have been all but forgotten, Bran being the Night King… the list goes on.
But out of all of the theories circulating on the Internet, this one might be the most convincing and absolutely plausible.
Via HBO/Game of Thrones Jaime Lannister is still alive!
Via HBO/Game of Thrones The last time we saw Jaime, he was holding his sister Cersei as the Red Keep collapsed around them, and they were never shown on screen again. So we have to assume that they both met their demise off screen, and don’t even get me started on that bullshit.
What if that’s not the case though. Tumblr user
Weeds Are Flowers Too pointed out some reasons why Jaime could still be very much alive, and honestly, it’s really got me thinking.
Via HBO/Game of Thrones Social Media Silence
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau has yet to reference his “final episode” in any social media posts, and neither have any of his co-stars. Surely, a character who has played such an integral role in the show, even before the Season 1 pilot aired, would warrant some heartfelt messages from his peers. But no. Even Gwendoline Christie, who plays Brienne, has been silent, and I find that very odd. Considering the relationship their two characters developed, especially this season after Jaime gave her a taste of his skin sword, things just don’t add up for me.
On the flip side, maybe the showrunners asked the cast to hold off on confirming his death to allow for this kind of speculation. That would be perfectly reasonable, right? Well, thanks to this next point, not really.
Via HBO/Game of Thrones Lena Headey Already Confirmed Cersei’s Death
If D.B. Weiss and David Benioff really did ask the cast to keep a tight lip, then why did Lena Headey already give a confirmatory interview regarding Cersei’s less than spectacular death? For the most part, anytime a significant death has happened on Game of Thrones, a post-episode interview with the actor/actress usually follows. Conleth Hill, who plays Varys, did one, as did many other departed cast members, but not Coster-Waldau.
Via HBO/Game of Thrones I should mention that Headey did mention Jaime in her interview, but still, the fact that no one else has said a peep is very strange. Here’s what she told EW.
“I wanted her to have some big piece or fight with somebody. The more we talked about it the more it seemed like the perfect end for her. They came into the world together and now they leave together,” she said. “I think the important thing is that Jaime had a chance at freedom [with Brienne] and finally liberated himself from Cersei, which I think the audience will be thrilled about. I think the biggest surprise is he came back for her. Cersei realizes just how she loves him and just how much he loves her. It’s the most authentic connection she’s ever had. Ultimately they belong together.”
Via HBO/Game of Thrones The Showrunners Spoke Out, Kind Of
During the show’s wrap-up, Weiss and Benioff touched on Jaime and Cersei’s last scene together, seeming to confirm that they’re both gone. Weiss referenced Bronn and Jaime’s conversation about how they wanted to die, and the King Slayer’s answer, Inside the Episode “I want to die in the arms of the woman I love.” Benioff followed that up by saying, “And this is it.”
But how much do we trust these two guys, seriously? We all know they’re choosing their words very carefully right now, so what if Jaime just thinks “this is it,” but then somehow survives. Or maybe he gets brought back? It wouldn’t be the first time that’s happened to a
Via HBO/Game of Thrones It’s all very interesting, but only Sunday’s Game of Thrones Season Finale will give us answers. Hopefully…
