Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop brand ordered to refund customers over unproven vaginal egg benefits

GWYNETH Paltrow’s lifestyle brand Goop will refund buyers of its vaginal eggs to settle a lawsuit over their unproven health benefits.

It is the second time the US star’s website has been in hot water after allegedly touting a DIY coffee enema kit which experts warned was dangerous.

Goop is still selling the egg-shaped stones which boast of boosting sexual energy.

But a Californian district attorney taskforce insists the claims are not backed by “competent and reliable scientific evidence”.

Goop has agreed to pay £112,000 in penalties and offer refunds. Paltrow, 45, first plugged the eggs on her website in early 2017. She claimed the £51 jade stone improved orgasms, vaginal tone and “feminine energy”.

The Oscar-winning Iron Man star urged women to clench one in their vagina all day to work the pelvic floor.

The jade and £42 rose quartz were also said to balance hormones, regulate periods and improve bladder control. But doctors warned the eggs could lead to bacterial vaginosis and deadly toxic shock syndrome.

Goop’s £17 Inner Judge Flower Essence claims to help prevent depression were also blasted.

Orange County district attorney Tony Rackauckas said: “It’s important to hold companies accountable for unsubstantiated claims.”

Goop has not admitted wrongdoing but said it wanted to settle “quickly and amicably”.
